AÏTA MON AMOUR

AÏTA MON AMOUR

Morocco | Tunisia

Aïta Mon Amour is the duo of Moroccan singer Widad Mjama and Tunisian musician and producer Khalil Epi. Together they are reviving the centuries-old aïta tradition from the Moroccan hinterland. Inspired by the Chikhates, the legendary singers and guardians of this art form, they combine powerful, poetic lyrics with modern arrangements of guitar, lute and electronic sounds. Widad Mjama, one of Morocco’s first female rappers and internationally successful with projects such as N3rdistan, brings her stage experience and distinctive voice to the project. Khalil Epi, multi-instrumentalist and producer, contributes his flair for Arabic music, jazz and contemporary sounds. The result is music that mediates between tradition and the present, reinterpreting the emotional power of Aïta and bringing it to the stage. Aïta Mon Amour stands for a contemporary homage to female expressiveness and musical innovation – a bridge between generations that carries on the history of the Chikhates with a fresh sound and modern energy.
