AKUTUK ORIGINS
AKUTUK ORIGINS
Cameroon
Originally from Cameroon, Akutuk is a technique of water percussion with bare hands, a game between air, water and body. This ancient skill is a tribute to the elements of nature that benefit it. It is a purely female activity that has been passed down from woman to woman in the forests of Cameroon for generations.
The Akutuk Origins project is reviving this cultural heritage, whose music has almost been forgotten. The relationship with water has changed over time. Loïs Zongo, the leader of the project, mobilizes her resources by bringing together the women of her home village to reinforce the value of traditional music practices and make this heritage visible again in the public space.
