From the divided capital of Nicosia comes the groundbreaking quartet that is redefining Cyprus “vibrant music scene. Led by Antonis Antoniou – founder of the award-winning bands Monsieur Doumani and Trio Tekke – the group brings together musicians from both sides of the Green Line to create a powerful symbol of cultural collaboration. Their sound is an electrifying mix of Cypriot folklore, Anatolian psychedelic rock, punchy 1970s funk and experimental electronic sounds, enriched with the distinctive growl of the bass clarinet and spherical organ textures. Buzz Ayaz” music is a hypnotic journey through urban soundscapes, rooted in the folkloric traditions of the eastern Mediterranean region. The lyrics, partly in Greek Cypriot dialect and partly in Turkish, reflect the island’s complex history. The debut album, released in August 2024 on Glitterbeat Records, combines dark bass lines, tribal rhythms and microtonal melodies to create a soundtrack that is both raw and poetic. With drummer Ulas Öğüç from the Turkish north of Nicosia and British bass clarinettist Will Scott, the band unleashes an energetic dynamic live.
