As a representative of Bogotá’s new alternative scene, La Sonora Mazurén is the indie emerald of mountainous and noisy Bogotá. La Sonora Mazurén take their inspiration from Brazilian tropicália and tropical retro-futurism, using synthesizers and electric guitars alongside the vallenato accordion and more traditional percussion. Their sound transports the audience to different musical worlds, from continental umbias to the psychedelic chichas of Peru and African fuzz. The band consists of electric guitar, vintage keyboards, accordion, Latin percussion and a vocal duo. Coming from jazz and experimental music, this Bogotá scene found its way to Colombian Tropicália music by using rock instrumentation and electronic elements to find innovative ways of reinterpreting traditional music in sometimes esoteric but always playful contexts.
