Tarta Relena is a Catalan duo that has been delighting audiences since 2016 with its creative combination of traditional Mediterranean vocal music and modern electronic influences. Helena Ros and Marta Torrella reinterpret songs from regions such as Crete, Corsica and Mallorca and sing in various languages, including Catalan, Greek and Ladino. Their arrangements are deliberately minimalist and focus on the extraordinary harmony of their voices. The themes range from sacred texts to historical figures such as Hildegard von Bingen. With their appearance at the renowned NPR Tiny Desk Concert, they have also attracted a great deal of international attention. Albums such as Fiat Lux and És pregunta impressively demonstrate how they transform folklore into a living, constantly evolving art form.
